【剧情简介】

Introduction

     中国古代南宋时期，南安太守杜宝，一心要把爱女杜丽娘培养成“闺范女模”，他请府学生员陈最良任教，命丫环春香伴读，以《诗经》向丽娘灌输封建“后妃之德”。

与杜宝愿望相反，丽娘却向往自由，无心读书。面对无拘无束、邀游太空的袅袅晴丝，丽娘深感闺中寂寞。她不顾父母的拘禁，与春香同去花园赏春。

     百花盛开，万紫千红，断井颓垣，一片凄清。冷落的园景，更引起丽娘无限感慨，游兴未尽而归。

丽娘思春，悠然入梦。梦见与一秀才相会在牡丹亭前。群花翩翩起舞，赞美这对纯真挚诚的青年情投意合。

但好梦不长，虽然梦和人生灵活现，梦却寻不见，忘不了。隐情无处诉，痴心难轻抛，杜丽娘在病中自描春容，题诗其上，竟饮恨与世长辞。

     金兵南侵，杜宝奉调镇守淮阳。行前，按遗言将丽娘葬于后花园梅树之下，并建梅花观请石道姑照料。

杜丽娘精诚不散，神游花园，再遇花仙，得群花相助，复与梦中人重逢。

梦中秀才柳梦梅，也因访梦来到南安，寄居梅花观中养病。一日，梦梅去花园闲游，恰得杜丽娘春容，并与魂灵相会，方知杜丽娘遭遇。最后，经人与花的援救，杜丽娘始得还魂，与柳梦梅结为永好。

The peony pavilion

In the Southern Song Dynasty of ancient China, the prefecture of Nan’an wanted to cultivate his beloved daughter Du Liniang to become a fine lady. He hired the old scholar Chen Zuiliang as the tutor, assigned the maid Chunxiang to keep the young lady companied and taught her the Book of Songs for feudal Virtues of Consorts.

Yet against the wills of Du Bao, Liniang only longed for freedom and had no interests in books. Looking at the clear sky, Liniang felt deep loneliness in the boudoir. In spite of her parents’ discipline, she invited Chunxiang to go to the garden together to enjoy the springtime.

Flowers of all sorts were blooming in a riot of colour. The wells were dry and the dilapidated place full of loneliness. Seeing the solitary scenery of the garden, Liniang was full of sentiments. She returned home.

Linniang fell asleep. In her dream, she met a young scholar in the Peony Pavilion. The Goddess of Flowers started dancing to praise the sincere love of the young couple.

Yet sweet dream doesn’t last long. Though both the dream and the person were lively as if they were true, there was no trace to find. Liniang had no place to speak her heart and got sick. She painted a portrait for herself and wrote a poem on it. Liniang passed away with regrets.

Jin soldiers invaded the south. Du Bao was sent to guard Huaiyang by the imperial’s decree. Before departure, he buried Liniang under the plum tree in the back garden, built the Plum Blossom Taoist Temple and asked Sister Stone to take care of it.

The spirit of Du Liniang didn’t disperse and visited the garden. She met the Goddess of Flower again. Under the favour of the flowers, she was able to reunite with her dream lover.

In the dream, the scholar Liu Mengmei visited Nan’an as well to find the dream. He stayed in the Plum Blossom Taoist Temple to recover from the sickness. One day, Mengmei had a stroll in the garden and picked up the portrait of Liniang by chance. He met the soul of Liniang and got to know her experience. Rescued by the Goddess of Flowers, Du Liniang got to revive and married Liu Mengmei eventually.
